The Tale Behind Where the Pineapple Grows

Do you know where a pineapple grows? I didn't until recently. I thought like most fruit, that they would grow on trees. Surprisingly enough, it turns out that pineapples grow in the ground. Who would have thought? 

And yet, isn't that how life is? We think it's one way, headed down a certain direction and then it's not. We get surprised yet again by its twists and turns. 

Not only do pineapples grow in the ground, they are also quite simple to grow. Take one, stick it in the ground and it will multiply. I like that about them.

For hundreds of years pineapples have been the sign of hospitality. Legend has it that New England sea captains would sail the Caribbean Islands and then return back to the Colonies with new goods. Upon his homecoming, a captain would spear a pineapple on a fence post outside his home as an invitation for friends to visit, share stories and good food.

You can consider this my pineapple on a fence post. A place to come, share stories and good food. You see, I love to throw a good party. 

The cool thing is that hospitality, like a pineapple, quickly multiplies in the soil of those around you. Plant a few seeds of hospitality, and it will grow in the hearts of those to whom the seeds are sown. And just like the unpredictability of a pineapple growing in the ground, the practices of diy hospitality can be unexpected, turning out sometimes as we had planned and yet mostly not at all like we thought.

So here on the Pineapple, you'll find a little bit of everything. Some yummy recipes and some diy attempts; some funny tales and some unexpected mishaps all in the name of good hospitality.
